   Hughes Computer Services is now offering a Small Business oriented Shopping Cart Software program. The Software is currently only available for UNIX systems. If the Demand warrants it, an NT version will be released.

   This Shopping Cart is highly affordable and will provide an automated order taking system for your Web Store. The Small Business Basket has many functions, the most notable is the ability to link to existing Databases, such as Spreadsheets. This allows for easy maintenance of the Product Inventory. Before we discuss all the functions of the Small Business Basket, let's see if it is the right choice for you.

   You are most certainly shopping based on certain Criteria that you have established. Let's see how many we can match before going into the particulars of the script. It is important to know what this Script is and isn't.

  • How much does it Cost?   $300 US Dollars.

  • What Operating System do I need?

       In order to Install and run this Software your Server must be using a Unix Operating System with Perl v5.0 or greater installed. You must also have access to your own cgi-bin directory. This allows for remote Administration. HCSdirect does offer these hosting services, if you are having trouble finding a quality Server.

  • Does it Process Credit Cards Online?

       The Small Business Basket does not connect to real time processors, the software stores orders including Credit Card data in an Encrypted Database. The orders are then retrieved thru an Administrative Control Panel (an HTML document stored on your local drive or placed on a floppy for Remote Admin!). You will need a Merchant Account with a Credit Card Processor to process the orders. This does allow you to use your exsiting Merchant Account.

  • What if I already accept Credit Cards?

       The Small Business Basket stores the Customers Order Information in an Encrypted Database File. This Data can be retrieved when convienent, then processed in the same manner as a Phone or Mail order. This means you don't pay extra, you use the Terminal or Software that you already.

  • What type of Software is this?

       The Small Business Basket is a program that is written in the Perl Programming Language, the shopping cart consists of Seven CGI scripts and Two text files. There is no JAVA in this software, this means people who have their JAVA turned off will still be able to place orders.

  • Can I do this myself?

       The Small Business Basket was designed to be easy to install and dependable. There are places in the Scripts that will need editing to suite your name and style, they are all marked. You will simply need to copy the Scripts, CHMOD to make Executable, and Insert tags into your existing Web pages.

  • Sounds easy when you say it, but will you Install it for me?

       Hughes Computer Services will install the script on your Server and get you Started for a one time $100 dollar installation fee.

  • What about Support?

       The Small Business Basket really needs no support. Once Installed correctly the script is fully automated. The Script never changes, you should however back up the working Original Scripts just in case future editing results in Script Failure. As a registered owner you will be entitled to Assistance from HCS thru HCSdirect. You will also be able to get future Updates at a Fraction of the regular price. Original Files will be made available to you in the event yours are lost.
